How many children are born in Spain per year?

The decline in birth rates in our country has been a constant for years. The latest data published by the INE, referring to so far in 2023, confirm this once again.
Thus, in the first nine months of the year, 238,766 boys and girls were born in Spain, while in the same period of 2022 there were 245,103 and in 2021 there were 249,809.  
The birth rate fell in all the autonomous communities, except in the Telegram Number Data Community of Madrid, where it grew by 1.73%, and in Extremadura (0.13%).
Where are the most children born in Spain?
When births are observed by community, we see that they are concentrated in four: Andalusia, Catalonia, Madrid and the Valencian Community , which have accumulated 151,121 births so far in 2023, 63% of the total.
In addition to the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, the communities in which there are the fewest births are, in this order, La Rioja, Cantabria and Navarra. The explanation is that they are all uniprovincial communities.



To better understand the proportion of children born in Spain in each autonomous community, what we would have to analyze is the birth rate.
How is the birth rate calculated?
The formula to calculate the gross birth rate (or simply birth rate) of any neighborhood, city, country, continent or worldwide is always the same and is calculated by dividing the number of births in a place during a period by the total population of the same area in the middle of that period and multiplying the data by 1,000 .
In this way, the number of births per 1,000 inhabitants is calculated and the relative speed with which the population increases through births is measured.
