Saving narratives In our book Feminisms before Islam: the veil and women's bodies , we analyzed how the obsession with the hijab, its dominant construction as a symbol of the oppression of Muslim women and the underdevelopment of Islamic contexts , has its roots in the colonialism of the 19th and 20th centuries.
